Week 1

Human Centered Design - Through the experiential session called Women of Dadaab, we were introduced to what it means to include a human perspective in our solutions.

Problem Statement

In Zimbabwe, only about 5% of secondary students sat for the O'level examination in arts in 2021. Whereas, according to RCZ,  3 in every 5 students are gifted in one form of art or the other. The unavailability of art classes, materials, and artistically competent teachers exacerbates the issue. How can arts education bolster the number of students sitting for the O'level examination.

Solution

Art on wheels is a mobile art studio. It provides access to materials for artistic creation, including training and mentorship to all Zimbabwe high school students through extra-curricular activities to improve their creative skills.

“The arts are not just a nice thing to have or to do if there is free time or if one can afford it. Rather, paintings and poetry, music and fashion, design and dialogue, they all define who we are as a people and provide an account of our history for the next generation.."
